As a British owner of a wonderful pair of Sonab OA 6's I'm sorry that I am unable to understand most of your board and I hope that someone will be able to tell me what the difference is between the Mk 1 and Mk 2 version of the speaker; as they sound wonderful it's just interest that makes me want to know.
I was lucky enough to buy the speakers new some years ago and was told by the dealer that the company had decided to withdraw from the British market as they had found it so difficult to build up sales here - is this correct?

Re: OA 6's
Hi David, and welcome to the CarlssonPlanet forums!
A good place to start if you would like to know more about the characteristics of the different models would normally be the English language version of the main site:
http://www.carlssonplanet.com/index.asp?lang=en
If you click on "The Carlsson Speakers" in the left-hand menu a drop down menu is displayed, from which you may choose to view information about the various models. As you've perhaps noticed the information for OA-6 Mk2 is for some reason missing. I'm not sure why that is the case; perhaps isn't the translation finished?
Here's a link to the Swedish language page of OA-6 Mk 2:
http://www.carlssonplanet.com/index.asp?lang=sv&p=oa6ii
Perhaps the translation team will be able to give some information about the status of the OA-6 Mk 2 page? If it's not ready, I'm sure someone around here with knowlegd in the correct terminology in English is able to give you a quick summary of the specifications. But as you can se from the pictures of the different models on the Swedish pages (apparently there are some broken pictue links as well on the English pages):
http://www.carlssonplanet.com/index.asp?lang=sv&p=stora
you can decide whether your speakers are Mk 1 or Mk 2 from their mere appearance.
I'm not sure when Sonab lost their UK distribution, but the entire company went bankrupt in 1977. Read more here:

Best regards / Daniel

Re: OA 6's
Daniel,
Thanks for your help! I have been able to identify my speakers as Type 2 from the pictures on Swedish language page.
They sound fine to me but is it likely that they could need some attention after some years of use - change of resistors and/or anything else?
David

Re: OA 6's
There are a few ways to improve the performance of the speakers. As you say updating a few of the filter components might be a good way to start. Changing the tweeters to a contemporary Peerless element is a relatively cheap way to enhance the performance further. The bass/midrange elements usually hold up quite well. As I understand a common problem with the OA-6 Mk 2 is that the "bass energizer" - the built-in power amp - breaks down. You've never encountered problems of that kind?
Anyway, in a few hours the more tech-inclined guys usually drop by, so I'm sure you'll have some more substantial advice then!

Re: OA 6's
Hi
The bass-energizer on the OA-6 Mk II is a bit sensitive, if it works don't fix it!
Apart from that check the surrounds on the 9710's The might be worn, especially on the "woofer".
Changing the tweeters to Peerless CT62 and mounting the tweeters in the "Y-configuration" are also possible tweaks.
Clean all contact surfaces from oxide.
Those are the things I would consider first.
Best regards
Martin
