Replacement for SC165 woofer - OA14

Post by one_green_monkey »

Hi

I just got a pair of OA14s, one woofer has damaged rubber and cone, the other is a Realistic replacement, so re-coning is out of the question.

I’m in Australia and the Peerless distributor cannot get the Peerless Carlsson B65-OA 8ohm (SC165 mk IV) 831881 in from Denmark for me as they say that Peerless doesn’t have any more of these speakers in stock and no materials to make any more :( .

Are there any other replacements for this woofer? Peerless or other brand?

Thank you
Dan

The Stig Carlsson Trust is currently working on developing a replacement woofer... So if you can wait some time (don't know exactly how long) there will be a soloution for this...

I have replaced the OA14's woofers with Silver Flute's W17RC38S08 (shielded)

The sound is great and I am very happy with the OA14s now. Maybe one day ill change to the recommended woofers once they become available again.

nice work!! :D

were the new woofers designed for best sound or to replicate the original drivers?

just looking at the specifications and the last replacement driver (B65-OA) and B65-OA II are quiet a bit different:

Peerless B65-OA (SC165 mk IV)
831881

Qts 0.35 / Fs 46.2 Hz / Vas 22.4 L / Sens 89.2 dB / Power 150 W rms / flange Ø max 165 mm

Carlsson (Sonab) B65-OA II
Qts 0.28 / Fs 33.8 Hz / Vas 39.7 L / Sens 88.3 dB / Power 150 W rms / flange Ø max 165 mm

is there any work currently underway to produce the replacement tweeters as well?
