OA116 Renovation
Re: OA116 Renovation
Yes I have read the renovation section and many more sites. I don't understand swedish and I just want to be sure not to spoil anything during the renovation process.
B. t. w. I also ordered the detailed modification instructions but so far I got no reply to my requests from carlssonplanet. I'm not sure they get my mails at all

Re: OA116 Renovation
Hi, just so we get you right. You know there is an English version of the site?:
http://www.carlssonplanet.com/renovation.php?lang=en&
Carlssonplanet is a non business enterprice and is managed by a group of enthusiasts in parallell with their "normal" jobs. I understand they are not always online and available to answer all requests. But keep on shouting - it should work!
Best Regards

Hi
Send me a PM with your info and I'll talk to the guy distributing the mods.
However, I hope you are aware that the mod is described in swedish only.
Best regards
Martin

Try Googles translating page. It's not perfect but you'll get some clue about it.Martin Dellstig wrote: However, I hope you are aware that the mod is described in swedish only.

Here I have used the page on another swedish forum where I and Peter Steindl (one of the people who started SSC and one of two who where certified to modfy OA116) are doing som creative stuff with OA116.

Re: OA116 Renovation
Rony.
I really think that you should keep an eye on the thread that Naqref gave in the previous post...
Peter Steindl was, as Naqref said, the first to be approved/certified by Stig Carlsson himself to modify the OA116 with some features that Stig &Co figured out to be an improvment to the performance of the OA116...
Naqref and Peter are working with a new very exiting mod project for the OA116.
The project will incorporate a bigger bass driver, a new high performance midrange driver and tweeters replaced with the CT 62.
They will also try/test to adress some contingent compromises that Stig might have done in the basic acoustical design for different reasons in that time period.
Regards
Stefan

Re: OA116 Renovation
Thank you nagref for the link to google translation page. THis helps quite a lot. B.T.W I have found an other forum with a illustrated story about a renovation of a oa116. For those interested it's

Together with the Google translation one can at least understand what they do

Re: OA116 Renovation
Hi to all, I finally did it!
I got a parcel from speakerbits, it took just to weeks to travel halfway around the globe. It contained 2 kits 0651k (as recommended by ColesKing, thank you ColesKing) with edges, dustcaps, glue, shims and instructions included.
Since last weekend was rainy and cold, it was a good time to go to work. First I took off the midrange speaker on top of the speakerbox. I used the srewdriver to pry it loose and with mild force it came off clean from the rubber seal on the baffle.
The re-edging was easyer than I thought, I just took some time to find out how fast the glue sets. I did not cut off the dustcaps but relied on the battery method suggested by snoopy (Thanks for this advice, it saved me a lot of tricky work removing and reinstalling the dust cap). The method works remarkably well especially on the woofer (this driver has a longer "stroke" and a narrower coil gap than the midrange).
Removing the woofer was also easyer than I thought. After loosening the screws on the bottom plate I again used mild violence as lemmts suggested. I used a Swiss Army Knife (what else?) and pushed the blade in between bottom plate and back side of the speaker box. I did it very slowly to give the rubber seal some time to let go. In this way the bottom plate came off clean from the speaker box with the rubber seal on. (Thank you for your help, Lars). The wires are indeed long enough to pull out the bottom plate as far as needed to remove the woofer.
After 2 days of work (and waiting for the glue to set) I put everyhing back in place and could not wait to listen to the result. Wow!!! It was worth every effort I can tell you. My speaker sounds like brand new.
I now wait for another rainy weekend to do the other box and I also have to find a way to fix the rubber tyres on the wheels. I found out that Kenrick Shepherd still produce the castors that were originally fitted to the sonab oa116 and oa 2212 speakers, but so far I have not found a supplier who will ship to Switzerland at a reasonable price.
I made some pictures of the renovation steps but I don't know how to post them. If anybody is interested to see them, let me know.
Thanks to all in the forum for the help I received.

Hi Rony
Nice to read that you get all help here, on this forum, to restore the OA116 of yours (that I recomend you by mail, if you remember), and that you managed to do all the work by yourself.
Best Regards // Göran

Re: OA116 Renovation
Göran, ( Godag) jag ser att ett par av dina 116 är bestyckade med SEAS CX21-LTS. Kan du berätta lite mer om detta och hur det blev?
