restoring OA2212

Greetings fellow Sonab-o-philes,

I am beginning to restore a nice pair of OA2212's.
I am concerned about the damping material inside the
cabinet. Is fiberglass still the best choice? What other
damping materials are being used?

Do you have opinions about the XLR connectors at the
bottom? Should they be replaced? To my eyes I think
they should. Would they handle 500 W / chennel?

Again thanks for the help!
Cheers
Rich

I asked a similar question a few months ago regarding my OD11's which had pretty poor insulation I received the following reply from "12bjorn" who is I believe a CarlssonPlanet "team Member". I wanted to put wool in mine but after receiving the reply below I kept the fibreglass. I actually repaired the fibreglass glueing it back to the sides of the box etc.
A lot of things make Sonab's sound good (and sound like "Sonabs") and it would appear that the Carlsson people feel that the insulation is part of that package.
The quote from 12bjorn is below:

"As I understand it Stig Carlsson tested the insulation very thoroughly to optimize performance. Of course You can try, but I'll recommend You to keep the old fibreglass insulation so You can put it back if You're not getting better performance."

As far as the plugs go I am not sure but if you look at the photo section you will see that most of the upgraded speakers have "Banana" plugs and good quality speaker wire. For the OA2212 it might be better to wait for the Carlssonplanrt people to get back from their holidays and get their opinon. I wanted to buy a set of OA116's about two months ago but the guy wanted too much for them (all the drivers needed replacing). Their appears to be quite a lot of wiring in the OA2212 so once again it may be a good idea to get an opinion from Carlssonplanet what needs replacing. On both my OA14's and OD11's replacing the wiring from the "filter" to the Banana Plug with good quality speaker wire and fitting Banana Plugs made an sudible improvement. Good Luck and I am envious of you. I would love to have a pair of OA2212's.
