Sonab OA-12 woofer question

Post by quadmatrix82 » Fri 04 Mar 2016, 08:06

Hi all, wondering if anyone can identify this woofer pictured? This was part of a OA-12 that I sourced today Is it a peerless sc-165? it looks like it from the outside but the magnet looks a little different to what I've seen in the past? Also normally I've seen the coils in crossovers always to be red but one is orange here I wonder if this is original also and been changed potentially to suit the woofer if not a peerless sc-165? any help would be appreciated.

Looks like a SC165-II. Peerless changed the magnet from the "horse shoe" magnet (alnico) to a more conventional ferrit magnet quite early I think. Can´t answer your question about the filter, although it seems "normal" to my eyes.

No, it's not a SC165-II. The magnet is not looking like that and the dust cap of a SC165 I or II has SONAB written on it.
You can read about different Peerless 6.5" here: http://carlssonkult.se/basoriginal.aspx for originals and http://carlssonkult.se/basersattare.aspx for replacements. Use google to translate.
Are there no figures at all, either on a sticker or written on the back of the cone?

I'm a bit doubtful but the filter seems ok.
Possibly but just possibly the woofer could be SC-165 version III,
but if it's not, it's something else not related to Sonab/Carlsson at all.

3558 as you write or 3588 as carlssonkult.se write for SC165III?

I have new information. I have some old 6.5" woofers, not original. They have been installed as replacements in OD11, OA14 and OA116 that I have bought through the years. I just now looked at them to see if I should refoam them. I have six of Peerless 833413. They all have 3588 printed on the back of the cone. So it's obviously not only SC165-III that have 3588 printed. And in your picture it seems like there has been a sticker. And according to carlssonkult.se there is no sticker on SC165-III. So I think it's more likely that it is a Peerless 833413 you have.
