I'm Dutch and live near the sea in the coastal town of Schoorl.
An acquaintance of mine recently gave me two speakers; he'd had them in his attic for a long time and wanted to get rid of them.
I was immediately sold on the (at the time) new design.
I hadn't seen anything like it before; the nameplate on the bottom read Sonab OA-05 type 2.
I came across your excellent website and unfortunately discovered that my Carlsson speakers had been converted to 'regular' two-way speakers, with a woofer on the front and a tweeter on the back.
Recently, I've invested in converting the speakers back to omdirectional.
I replaced the woofer with a full-range speaker and three tweeters (per speaker) (car tweeters). I had six available, so I went ahead and did that.
I added a new resistor to the filter to align the tweeters. The original Sonab filter had already been removed by the unknown owner, who had robbed the speakers of their original design.
I've done my best to create a Carlsson omnidirectional speaker. However, I'm still missing two essential components to dampen the bass "clamp basket." I've done this at the bottom of the cabinet with some heavy-duty damping wool.
I also installed wheels (my own solution) under the cabinets. This now balances the bass response with the midrange and treble. To allow the three inward-facing tweeters to reflect, I added a babouska figure (I'm missing that black rod). This also works well, and the sound is very detailed, spacious, and pleasant. Any info or tips are welcome!
See the photos; my goal is to return the speakers even more closely to their original design. Funny thing, no one in the Netherlands, and I mean Hi-Fi dealers, knows the Sonab brand or the Sonab OA-05 speakers.
Apparently, it's very rare here, but everyone I've let listen to my Sonab OA-05 has been very enthusiastic about the spatial effect of the sound. Greetings from the Netherlands, Rik Roos.
