Hole in the Middle

Post by Bob B »

Hi,
I've got a recently restored pair of OA-14's. They are totally original with the bass drivers replaced with the Peerless original manufacturer replacement driver. If I sit dead center between the speakers the imaging goes funny. The instruments and voices loose their image specificity. That is, it becomes hard to distinguish exactly where each singer and instrument are placed in the soundstage. If I move a little to either side, the image snaps into focus.

Can anybody explain to me what is going on here? Please? :?:

Thanks,
bob b.

This may be due to wrong phasing of the speakers. Check the polarity of the signal cables both internally and between the amplifier and the speakers (compare between left and right). At least this could be a first step.

Anybody? Comb filtering? If so, will the new tweeter arrangement help?
