Replacement for peerless SC165

Post by rasnavely »

Greetings All,
What is the recomended replacement for the SC165 in both 8 Ohm and 5.3 Ohm? I am having trouble to find these. Are there other drivers than Peerless that would work in an OA2212?
Many Thanks!
Cheers

Hi !

There is no need to degrade your OA-2212 with general replacement speakers.
New original drivers kan be purchased at http://www.hifikit.se.

They stock the original drivers for OA-2212 (and other Carlsson/Sonab speakers).
http://www.hifikit.se/show_prod.asp?id=947 (8 Ohms version)
http://www.hifikit.se/show_prod.asp?id=1413 (5,3 Ohms version)

The site is in Swedish but they do business abroad.

The reason you are having problems finding this unit is that it is not a standard Peerless unit.
The SC-165/B65oa is tailored for the OA-speakers and therefore not available everywhere.

The name SC-165 was used for drivers up to SC-165 Mk III, the forth generation became B65oa/W65oa.
These drivers are heavily improved compared to the standard units they once started evolving from.

So you would loose a lot of the great sound from your OA-2212 by using "replacement-drivers".

For hints regarding restoring see :

Good luck with restoring your speakers and get back to us if you have any difficulties, we´ll do our best to help you.

Best regards

OA 2212 & Thank You !!

Post by rasnavely »

Thanks very much!

You have answered a question about the Peerless SC165.
I was confused and now I understand.

The OA-2212 deserves to be renovated correctly and I will
purchase the correct drivers from HIFIKIT.

Any other recommendations to correctly rebuild the OA2212?
This is a way cool website!
Cheers
