This is y-configuration: I can't say that I hear any difference from original.
I don't like the coating at all. I'm sure it will change the parameters of the woofer.
1. I left the OA-14 on either side of my fireplace as per the photo in my post dated 22 August 2017;
2. I disconnected my subwoofer;
3. I then placed the OA-12 in the corners of the room on either side of the OA-14 (the OA-12 are right in the corners behind large potted plants, so you cannot see them unless you look closely), wired in parallel to the OA-14. I wired them in parallel as, firstly, my amplifier has no problem with the low resistance load, secondly because it was easier, and thirdly because some sources feel it is better (than series wiring) from a sonic point of view.
The sound is very good: because visitors do not realise that the OA-14 are being "helped" by the OA-12, they are astonished at the effortless fullness and dispersion of the huge soundstage !
I do in effect have the same number of drivers as a pair of OA-116, spread more widely in my OA-12 & 14 enclosures. I think when mounting two identical pairs of speakers together (eg. stacked Quad ESL-57), the increase in sound level for a given input is +3db, so even high sound levels are very effortless (just as well, as my daughter has discovered Led Zeppelin !). Yet, piano and voice at much gentler listening levels are delightful.
I have little doubt that a total refurbishment of both pairs of speakers would likely produce a very significant improvement in sound, but I am in no hurry, just very much enjoying what I have.
