Re: Sonab OA-12 upgrade
Hi Momus! Sorry for the delayed reply. I haven't been on for a while. I was previously running them with a Dynaco ST-80 and Dynaco PAS-4, both mid-'90s vintage. I currently have them upstairs with a newer Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum ii (KT-120 tubes - 100WPC). On that system (Denon CD player) they KIL...

Re: Sonab OA-12 upgrade
STDI! Thank you! That's how I was hoping it would work. Wasn't looking forward to drilling a bunch of holes in my immaculate old speakers.

Re: Sonab OA-12 upgrade
Parts have arrived, and ready to go. I have a question right off: 1. The Satori driver has 6 screw holes around a thick cast rim instead of the turned up steel rim of the original drivers, which accepts 4 retainer clips. How do you mount the Satori drivers? Do you clamp the rim with the 4 original r...

Sonab OA-12 upgrade
I am about to undertake another OA-12 upgrade project; this time using the Satori mid-woofer, Obi T22 tweeters, and filter by grafpro. Parts are ordered. I was visiting #2 son in Montana a couple weeks ago. He has the pair I upgraded 6 years ago, with Carlsson B65 drivers. Paired with the old Pionee...

Re: OA-116 on the fritz
Matts,
Thank you for the reply! Got the speaker apart. Nothing obvious. Will try testing connections. There is a shop here that might be able to help too.

OA-116 on the fritz
My son has a pair of OA-116 that I refurbished 8 years ago. The right speaker suddenly quit working today - whole thing, no sound. Of course he swapped right and left on the receiver to make sure it wasn't the receiver. When he removed the top he found a damaged wire (rodent damage? Tool damage?) an...

Re: OA-14 specs
I see no one has responded (and many who might are no doubt more knowledgeable than I), but from what I can see, the OA-14s are overall rated 8 ohm, as are both the mid-woofer and the tweeters. From what I can Google up, tapping into the 4 ohms may deliver a bit less power and a bit more sweetness, ...

Re: OA-14 specs
I don't know about OA-14s - but I took my OA-12s, with hifikit / grafpro upgrades to a meeting of Pacific NW Audio Society on Mercer Island. They hooked them up to a tube amp and CD player, and they sounded amazing. People came in the listening room, sat down and just didn't get up again. I would gi...
