Tell A Friend Tell A Friend

Stig Carlsson developed speakers over a long period of time. The information given here is mostly taken from Stig Carlssons patent applications and some is general knowledge. The speakers presented here are at first glance not very similar to the speakers that have been marketed in Stig Carlssons or Sonab’s name.
The ones that are easily recognisable as production models have been omitted. However the same ideas that are found in the production models can be found here, sometimes to a more extreme level.
There might be other models unknown to me or there might be some minor discrepancies, if so please let me know.

The fifties
In the fifties Stig Carlsson stood behind two production models, the Coalscuttle and ET/Tonträff.
At least one more design came from Stig Carlsson.

The sixties
In the sixties Stig Carlsson stood behind five production models, the OA-4, OA-5, OA-6, V-I and the “Pop-box”.
At least one more design came from Stig Carlsson, a developed version of the OA-6.

The seventies
In the seventies Stig Carlsson stood behind two series of production models.
First the Mk II series of the models from the sixties introduced approximately in 1970.
After that came the new designs when the concept of stereophonic sound became more widespread. These models had an increased quota of direct sound compared to the older omni directional models. The new models where OA-2212, OA-116, OA-14, OA-12 and the OD-11.
At least three more designs that were never produced came from Stig Carlsson, two three way versions of the OD-11 and a design similar in thinking to the OA-2212 but this speaker uses only one woofer and have the tweeters configured somewhat different.

The eighties
In the eighties Stig Carlsson stood behind three production models, the OA-50, OA-51 and the OA-52.

At least six more designs that were never produced came from Stig Carlsson, one small variation of the OA-51 concept and five floor standing speakers.
These are the last patents from Stig Carlssons own hand.

The nineties
No new designs were patented by Stig Carlsson who died in 1997 before his “three way speaker” was completed. Some understanding for this speaker can be gained from reading about these models and from the “Three way” on the homepage.

Upgrades for OA-50, OA-51 and OA-52 to Mk II versions where introduced in the nineties.

The new millennium
The OA-58 has been introduced and the OA-60 has not been played but shown to the market.
Supposedly a surround speaker for home theatre will be introduced and there is a new developed magnetically shielded version of the 6.5 inch Peerless mid woofer designed with the same T/S parameters as the standard unit. This allows us to use this unit without changes in the cross over filter.

Upgrades for OA-50, OA-51 and OA-52 to Mk III versions where introduced in 2003.

A filter upgrade for the OD-11, OA-12 and OA-14 adapted to use of the new Peerless CT62 instead the old MT 20 HFC has been released.

Documentation for upgrading OA-116 and OA-2212 has been introduced.

So, although Stig Carlsson is dead his work continues in the Stig Carlsson Trust. This enables us to enjoy speakers designed to the ortho-acoustical principles for many years to come.
